• What is the Big Apple Barbecue Block Party?
The Big Apple Barbecue Block Party takes place one weekend each June in Madison Square Park and surrounding streets, attracting people from near and far to celebrate America’s authentic culinary and musical traditions. Event admission is free, with award-winning barbecue and Southern-inspired fare from the country’s top pitmasters available for $9/plate. Live performances from emerging and established rock, blues and soul artists take place onstage throughout the day, and some of the country’s most innovative chefs share insights and cooking tips in the Seminar Tent.

This year's Big Apple Barbecue Block Party, the 11th annual, will take place on Saturday and Sunday, June 8-9, 2013 from 11:00am 6:00pm
  • What is a pitmaster?
A pitmaster is a barbecue authority who cooks up mouthwatering ‘cue. At the event, you’ll have the opportunity to sample ‘cue from the nation’s top, award-winning pitmasters from barbecue capitals like Texas, North Carolina, Alabama, Illinois and more.
  • How do I purchase food and beverages at the event?
Admission to the Big Apple Barbecue Block Party is free, so no ticket is needed to attend. Barbecue is sold directly at the pitmaster’s rigs for $9 per plate. Desserts and Beverages may be purchased from $3 - $8. Only cash (and FastPasses) will be accepted.
  • What is a FastPass?
A FastPass allows the holder and one guest exclusive access to express lines for barbecue. This year we’re offering a FastPass for either Saturday or Sunday. This means shorter lines and less wait time between you and your favorite rack of ribs. FastPasses are $125 each, and include a $100 value redeemable for food and beverage on the chosen day only. Limited quantities are available for purchase in advance of the event, while supplies last.
    Available here.
  • Do I need to purchase a ticket for the Music Stage or the Seminar Tent?
No. The performances, seminars and demonstrations are free. For Seminars, seating is limited, so we recommend arriving fifteen minutes in advance to secure a seat.
  • What culinary offerings can I expect to find at the event?
The Big Apple Barbecue Block Party offers a selection of different barbecue styles and items, from pulled pork sandwiches, to ribs, sausage, and brisket, alongside Southern sides and desserts. We also host a Beer Garden within the park, and this year are introducing two new culinary destinations in the park that will be announced shortly!
