From the Big Apple to the Mile High City, Danny Meyer’s Union Square Events and Blue Smoke along with Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q and Downtown Denver Events are proud to present the Big Denver Barbecue Block Party. On Saturday & Sunday, August 4-5, 2012, locals and culinary enthusiasts from across the region can feast on barbecue while enjoying live music and cooking demos.

The sister event of New York City’s acclaimed barbecue extravaganza, the Big Denver Barbecue Block Party gathers eight of the country’s best pitmasters to cook authentic pit barbecue on-site against the beautiful backdrop of Skyline Park – think whole hogs in smokers, thousands of sausage links, pounds of pulled pork and more – and will also feature six live musical performances and four cooking demonstrations.

The confirmed roster to-date includes eight award-winning pitmasters, three of whom founded the Big Apple Barbecue Block Party ten years ago:

Kenny Callaghan, founding pitmaster (Blue Smoke, New York, NY)

Mike Mills, founding pitmaster (17th Street Bar & Grill, Murphysboro, IL; Memphis Championship Barbecue, Las Vegas, NV)

Ed Mitchell, founding pitmaster (Raleigh, NC)

Patrick Martin (Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint, Nashville, TN)

Tommy Houston (Checkered Pig, Danville, VA)

Joe Duncan (Baker’s Ribs and The Original Fried Pie Company, Dallas, TX)

Frank Ostini (The Hitching Post II, Buellton, CA)

Jake Linzinmeier (Telluride Ski Resort, Telluride, CO)

Admission to the Big Denver Barbecue Block Party is FREE. Barbecue will be sold for $8 per plate, beer for $6 per glass, desserts for $4, and assorted soft drinks for $2. Proceeds from the Big Denver Barbecue Block Party will support local charities.

The Big Apple Barbecue Block Party just celebrated its 10th anniversary on June 9th & 10th in Madison Square Park, attracting locals and tourists alike to celebrate America’s authentic culinary and musical traditions.  “We are incredibly excited to bring this one-of-a-kind celebration of barbecue and live music to one of the most beautiful areas of the country,” said Kenny Callaghan, event co-founder and Chef/Partner of Blue Smoke. “We hope the Big Denver Barbecue Block Party becomes a much-anticipated annual rite of summer for Colorado residents and visitors alike, just as our event has in New York.”

Nick Pihakis, owner of Jim ‘N Nicks, adds, “Barbecue is a national pastime where folks gather to share a meal, music, and conversation—that’s what you’ll find every year in New York and is what we’re excited to bring to Denver this year.”
